However, he never got into the fight and lost by TKO in round two.
Brito hammered away with leg kicks from the opening bill and by the second frame, they had paid dividends as a massive cut on his opponent’s shin.
Shore appeared to be moving well, but the referee opted to bring the action to a halt to get a cageside doctor to assess the damage.
UFC cameras zoomed in on the injury as commentator Jon Anik compared it to a ‘bullet hole’ and his broadcaster partners Daniel Cormier and Paul Felder predicted the fight would be called off.
The Welsh fighter looked gutted when their premonition came true, and the doctor deemed him in no fit state to continue scrapping with Brito.
It was later confirmed that the doctor feared Shore’s leg was broken.
Fans had mixed opinions about how serious Shore’s injury was.
One person tweeted: “That’s not a cut that’s a bullet wound.”
Another commented: “Those leg kicks were crazy. Brito looked great.”
A third person added: “This sport has gone soft.”

Someone else said: “That was a bulls*** stoppage.”
Shore earned himself a top 15 ranking in the UFC’s bantamweight division and put together a 17-0 record before suffering the first defeat of his career in 2022.
The 29-year-old jumped up to featherweight and tapped out 145lb veteran Makwan Amirkhani in his March 2023 divisional debut.
Whenever he’s fit to fight again, Shore will continue chasing his goal to become MMA’s version of Joe Calzaghe, who enjoyed a legendary career in boxing.
For me, legacy is bigger than titles and undefeated records,” he told talkSPORT MMA ahead of UFC 301.
“When people talk about Welsh MMA, I want my name to be in the conversation of ‘He was the best. If he wasn’t the best, he was one of the best.’
“Like we do with people like Joe Calzaghe and Gavin Rees.
“Whenever someone mentions British boxing, whether they think he’s the best British boxer, or not, people mention Joe Calzaghe, he’s always in the conversation.”
